Context
The Art Nouveau movement lasted from roughly 1890-1910 and was aimed at overturning some of the imagery and pathos around the classicism of previous movements. Art Nouveau sought more flowing and natural lines, as well as seeking balance between art and nature. Not everyone was a fan of the “snake-like” curving lines and serpentine architecture that began to flourish at this time. Art Nouveau became a philosophy, not just art, although it also marked the beginning of mass-produced art that was commercially available to anyone.
