Context
After the British decisively beat the French on the Plains of Abraham, the First Nations groups in the area began to question what life would be like under the British. Generally, the French offered better trading terms and “rented” Native land, where the British preferred “buying” land in one time deals. To protest continued encroachment of British settlers on First Nations’ land, Pontiac, a powerful Ottawa-Ojibiwa chief, organized a force of around 900 and attempted to push back the British.
