Context

The Victorian era was an exciting time for England. Usually associated with pious and devout women and serious, stern men, the Victorian era was one of great change in England. Industrialization brought more jobs but poverty was rampant and life was far from perfect. Out of the this time emerged some of Britain’s most famous writers including: Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, Anthony Trollope, Alfred Lord Tennyson among many others. Also, this was the era when Charles Darwin wrote ‘On the Origin of Species’ and flipped the whole science community on it’s ear.
